Exploring China–EU Trade Cooperation and Future Opportunities: Nordic Match Attends EUCBA Luncheon

2026-06-24 16:15

The European Union–China Business Association (EUCBA) organised an exclusive luncheon with H.E. Cai Run, Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to the European Union and Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, held at De Warande in Brussels. The luncheon brought together European sector organisations as well as European and Chinese business leaders for an exchange on EU–China economic relations. Nordic Match Senior Advisor Gerard van Damme had the honour of attending this luncheon.

In his opening remarks, Mr Jochum Haakma, Chairman of the EUCBA, highlighted the deep interdependence between the EU and China, noting that both economies remain closely connected through trade and investment flows.

During the luncheon, Ambassador Cai Run shared valuable insights into the priorities of the 15th Five-Year Plan and their implications for EU–China trade and investment. He highlighted the opportunities for further cooperation, noting that China is taking concrete steps to expand opening-up across key sectors, including manufacturing, telecommunications, education, finance, and insurance, with many of these measures already being implemented.

At Nordic Match, we continue to see that the EU–China relationship remains structurally interconnected, with economic ties continuing to provide a strong foundation even amid periods of uncertainty. We also observe that companies maintaining a consistent long-term approach—while adapting to evolving regulatory and market conditions—are generally better positioned to identify sustainable opportunities across both markets.

In this context, Nordic Match continues to support European companies in understanding China’s market dynamics and navigating long-term cross-border opportunities between Europe and China.

Many thanks to the European Union–China Business Association for hosting this valuable discussion. Looking forward to continued engagement on EU–China relations.
